Chess Games – All About Strategy And Tactics

Chess Games

Chess is a game of strategy and tactics. Each player commands an army of 16 chess pieces. At the start of the chess games, players line up their forces to prepare for combat. Players manoeuvre their pieces to carry out attacks and counterattacks on the opposing army. At the end of the game there are fewer pawns and pieces left on the board. This is when it’s safer for the king to emerge and take part in the battle.

It’s a game of strategy – so here are a few tips to improve your chances of winning.

It Is important that you plan your attack carefully. It must be co-ordinated and use all the different moves available to each of the pieces in the most effective manner. All  your moves should be aimed at achieving the planned move. Don’t change your attach plans mid-way though a manoeuvre as this will make it easier for your opponent to counter attack. All the pieces must work together  as a team and you are the coach. They all have strengths and weaknesses and you need to harness the strengths and minimise the weaknesses.

  1. Know the values that you place on your pieces.

Carefully consider the value of having each piece in your army and any negative effects that might result if your plan involves sacrificing any one of your pieces to your opponent.

  1. Pay attention to what your opponent is doing.

Try putting yourself into the mind-set of your opponent. Every time your opponent moves stop and think about what might be behind their move. What is their plan? Are there any threats that you should be on the lookout for? Is one of your men in imminent danger? The best way to successfully defend yourself is to understand what your opponent’s attack plan.

  1. Develop your plan quickly and well.

Timing is very important in chess. If your men are ready for action and to move quickly then this will help you to control the course of the game.

  1. Maintain the safety of the King.

The object of chess games is to capture the opponent’s king. Your opponent is planning to do the same to your king. Make sure you have a robust plan to protect your king in all eventualities.

  1. Always make the best possible move.

You should always question your thoughts before making a move. Will this move improve my position by increasing the effectiveness of my piece? Does this move help to defend against my opponents threats? Have I left any holes in my defence? Have I unintentionally left any of my pieces in danger of capture.

  1. A pawn

If it is pawn, then consider how you can best keep it protected from attack.

  1. Other pieces

If it is another piece that you’re planning to move, then check whether the enemy can drive it away.

  1. The alert.

Once you’ve reached a good strong position in the game, it is important that you do not take your foot of the pedal. This can be a common mistake. You must always be watching for your opponents threats. Just because you might be relaxing because you can see the end-game, your opponent could be at their most aggressive, particularly if they feel under threat.

  1. Know when to trade pieces.

The best time to trade pieces is when you can capture a piece worth more than the one you’re sacrificing .

  1. Consider the end of the game.

Always remember that every move you make, or any sacrifice you plan influences your chances  of success in the end chess games.

  1. Control the centre.

The player that controls the four squares in the centre of the board is generally considered to have the advantage in the game.

Practice and study these tips and you should improve your chess game.
